The Truth Behind Today's Tech Talent: Wants, Needs, and Expectations

Written by Rachel Gallaher | Sep 10, 2025 2:31:06 PM

As we move deeper into 2025 and into 2026, I’m seeing how career decisions are constantly and consistently impacted by purpose, balance, and the freedom to grow.

Deloitte’s latest Global Human Capital Trends supports this with two in three workers wanting work designed around their skills, passions, and style, and 66% saying they’re more likely to stay if their potential is recognised over past experience.

At QXi, we’ve built QXLife around that principle, giving people the autonomy, trust, and tools to lead in their own way.

1. Purpose Over Perks

Purpose is defined by the people who work here. For some, it’s improving processes; for others, it’s shaping culture or innovating in recruitment.

Leadership becomes a mindset where when one of us thrives, we all thrive. That’s why we foster a culture of intrapreneurship, where people own their careers the way entrepreneurs own their business.

2. Flexibility: Work Your Way

Flexibility at QXi is built into how we work. With hybrid options, multiple offices across the group, and the freedom to shape your career route, you don’t have to fit into a one-size-fits-all mould.

We help you design a path that plays to your strength and ambitions

Here, you can progress as a high-performing biller, grow into a mentor, or step into management whichever path fits your goals. The common thread is trust: we back you to work in a way that gets the best from you, while making sure you can balance life outside the job too.

Moving to a new country, into a new market, or undertaking a big life move? We’ve seen this play out across the business.

3. Career Growth & Continuous Learning

Growth starts the moment you join because we know hiring doesn’t end when a contract is signed. The real work is making sure people feel supported, challenged, and set up to succeed.

We build growth into every stage of the journey:

  • A structured onboarding plan tailored to your role.

  • Mentors and buddies who guide you through the first months.

  • Regular check-ins to make sure you’re aligned, supported, and thriving.

  • Continuous learning through internal training programmes and leadership development.

  • Transparent promotions, incentives, and pathways for progression.

It’s a mix of structure and support that keeps people engaged long after their start date and it’s why so many of our people go on to build lasting careers here.

Here’s what that looks like:

4. Wellbeing and Work-Life Balance

A career in recruitment can be intense but it shouldn’t come at the cost of your wellbeing. At QXi, we’ve built a culture that flexes with people’s lives, because we understand that balance looks different for everyone.

That means:

  • A flexible work culture that lets you find a rhythm that works for you.

  • Support for parents and diverse employees, so no one has to choose between career and life outside of work.

  • Social initiatives and wellbeing programmes that bring people together and keep things fun.

The result is a workplace where you can perform at your best without burning out and where balance is seen as part of success, not separate from it.

5. Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI)

Inclusion at QXi starts with how we hire. Blind CVs, buddying for new joiners, and transparent promotions make sure opportunities are fair from day one. We are one team, united by our shared goals and values, creating a strong community where everyone is valued.

We’ve built communities like QX-EmpowHERed, where “together, we empower women to rise, lead, and succeed.” We run clubs, social initiatives, and forums that connect people beyond the desk, creating a culture where everyone belongs.

Our impact reaches further too. From philanthropy and sustainability programmes to Paige Dadds’ Gender Bias in AI webinar, we use our platform to spark conversations that challenge bias and push the industry forward.

Living Our QXLife

As technology reshapes industries and new generations enter the workforce, what people want from their careers will continuously shift.

We look at these changes through two lenses: what’s happening in tech, and what it means for people. Whether it’s exploring gender bias in AI, backing flexibility for working parents, or creating pathways for leadership without management, our focus is always on building an environment where people can reach their potential.

That’s what QXLife is about: a culture that adapts, listens, and evolves with our people.
